SLP-Facilitated Music Therapy (Montreal)

SpeakAble has teamed up with Westmount Music Therapy for an SLP-facilitated music therapy group.

The group will be run by Tamara Paull, SLP, and Laura Hastings, MT. Together, they select a group of children that would be appropriate based on their skills, needs and ages. As the Music Therapist works her magic using instruments and song, the SLP helps facilitate the progress of each child’s skills in speech, language, oral motor or social skill development.

Please note that your child requires a speech and language evaluation report completed within the last year in order to participate in the group. You will be asked to send those for review by the SLP who will then determine whether or not they are still valid. If your child has not been seen by an SLP and you wish to have an evaluation completed, please contact us. You will be provided with a brief progress note regarding your child’s speech and language goals after the completion of the group.

Below are some details regarding our upcoming group! Please note that groups require a minimum of 4 children in order to run, and can accommodate up to a maximum of 7.

Who: Children of all ages with autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, social communication disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, phonological disorders, sound errors or language delays.

What: The group will run for 45 minutes

When: On Monday afternoons for 6 weeks

Where: Westmount Music Therapy at 4695 Maisonneuve Blvd W., Westmount, QC H3Z 1S4. The space is on the second floor of the church.

Speech & Music Expressions (Toronto)

We are now offering a group facilitated by both a Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Music Therapist in Toronto in collaboration with Miya Music Therapy! The music therapist and speech-language pathologist work in conjunction to elicit words, social communication and speech sounds through music!

Social Skills (Toronto)

Two of SpeakAble’s speech-language pathologists are teaming up for an SLP-facilitated social group. The group provides opportunities for interaction, play, conversations and friendships! Please note that this group requires a minimum of 4 children in order to run. Your child must have a speech and language report completed within the past year in order for them to participate in this group. If they have not been assessed within the above time frame, and you still wish to register them, we are happy to discuss an evaluation with you.

Preschool Speech & Language Lessons

We offer an eight-part program, developed by our speech-language pathologists, in order to provide preschool classrooms with lessons rich in speech and language content. Each lesson is designed to target an area of development that falls within the scope of practice of a speech-language pathologist: speech/articulation, voice/volume, receptive language, expressive language, literacy, and social skills. The lessons will focus on the most essential skills within each area of development and will target common errors, as well as skills that are expected to be mastered or emergent. This program is intended to benefit all children. It can benefit children with speech and language difficulties but was not created for that purpose nor should it replace therapy if therapy is recommended. Each lesson incorporates a multi-sensory approach to learning, including books, songs, and interactive group activities. It is recommended that lessons be scheduled on a monthly basis for consistency. Children will be sent home with a brief note after each lesson which will summarize the targets and can include song lyrics, book recommendations and ideas on how to target the skills at home. If you are a preschool in Toronto interested incorporating this program at your facility throughout the year, please let us know!
